

He grew up on Missionary Ridge and was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga. He was the son of the late Jenks Fain and Joy Fitch Parker and a descendent of Colonial Parkers who immigrated to coastal North Carolina in 1640’s. A graduate of Central High School Class of 1958 and a graduate of The University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he received a Degree in Civil Engineering in 1968. John served in the United States Navy Submarine Corp from 1959 to 1965. As a Professional Civil Engineer, he was the owner of Parker Construction Company and Parker Engineering and was a member of Chattanooga Engineers Club. John was a seasoned pilot and enjoyed restoring and flying vintage aircraft. He was a member of the Moccasin Flying Club. He was a founding member of the Anglican Church of the Redeemer. A devoted father and cherished husband; he was a courageous man who sought God’s will in his life.
John is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Paula Morris Hostetter Parker; one daughter, Robin Parker of Nashville, TN; two sons, Stephen and wife Shannon Parker of Denver, CO and Daniel and wife Christie Parker of Atlanta, GA; and one brother, Jenks C. Parker and his wife Harriett of Chattanooga and Union Springs, AL; and five nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 5th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Services for John will be held on Friday, April 6th at 11:30 AM at his church, The Anglican Church of the Redeemer with Father Tom Waddell officiating.
Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Jenks Parker, Jr., Michael Parker, Quincy Simon, Parke Morris, Madison Morris and Rick Guinn serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Beries, Mark Winton, Carl Winton, Larry Day, Paul Ibach, Jim Brown and Bill Rodgers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 1815 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
