

Joy Mercado, daughter of the late G.O. and Jenny Wessenauer, returned to be home with the Lord Jesus early Saturday morning, August 31. She was preceded in death by brother Reverend James Wessenauer and is survived by children Justine Mercado, Ian (Diana) Mercado, Joelle (David) Lau, and Jenny (Jason) Steele, along with six dearly loved grandchildren (Evelyn, Lillian, Jonathan, Gabrielle, Ryan, Justin) and many beloved friends.
Joy graduated from GPS in Chattanooga, TN and The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was a long time employee of the Electric Power Board and served as a volunteer Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Joy was an active member of New City Presbyterian Church and also regularly attended Johns Creek Baptist Church during frequent family visits.
A life celebration memorial service for Joy will be held at 11am on Friday, 9/6, at Johns Creek Baptist Church, 6910 McGinnis Ferry Rd, Alpharetta, GA with a light reception to follow.
A graveside service for Joy will be held at 10am on Saturday, 9/7, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Chattanooga, TN with a reception to follow. Family will receive friends at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel from 9 am to 10 am on Saturday, September, 7, 2013
Joy wishes to thank the staff of Emory University Hospital for their diligent care and kindness. The family wishes to also extend thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Senior Helpers for their comforting at-home care.
