

Larry Everette Card, born on December 23, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Eugene and Effie Mae Card passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 88. Larry was known for being adventurous, faithful, hard-working, and kind-hearted.
He graduated from Soddy Daisy High School, where he excelled in sports, particularly baseball and basketball. Larry attended Carson Newman College on a scholarship, further showcasing his athletic talents for two years. He was a member of the same church his grandparents introduced him to since the 1930's; The Dividing Ridge Church of God "The Ridge".
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas in the 1960’s in the Special Troops division, a group recruited for their sports acumen. They traveled from base to base, showcasing their talents for the troops. While serving in the Army he was even flown to Cuba to play in exhibition basketball games.
A man of diverse interests, Larry was permanently enshrined in the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame and to the Soddy Daisy Alumni Hall. Nancy, his former spouse, humorously remarked, "if it rolled, Larry played it."
Larry was also the owner and sponsor of Card Carpets Slaw Pitch Men’s Softball team in the 1970's. His Cards Carpets team was the first to be invited to the World Tournament in New York. From 1977 until 1983 he also coached basketball for the Boys Club in Highland Park.
Larry had a distinguished career in the yarn industry, he was the owner of Card Textile Company and sold carpet yam and jute backing to the carpet mills in Dalton, Ga. and the area mills.
Larry was loved by all and never met a stranger due to his outgoing personality. He had a very kind heart and would not hesitate to help anyone that he could. He will be missed by all that knew him - especially family that knew him the best. We love you Larry and will see you again.
Larry is survived by; his daughter, “Daddy’s Girl” Angela Card Hughes and her husband Charles; his granddaughter, Summer N. Griffith; his great-grandson, Jackson Everett Griffith; and his sister, Carolyn Jo Sands, his brother-in-law, Fredrick K. Johnston III (Brenda), a sister-in-law, Deborah J. Clark, his former spouse and best friend, Nancy Card and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, located at 1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN, 37404 at 1:00 pm on Thursday January 15, 2026, with Mike Flynt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Larry's memory to either American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
