Larry Vaughn was born on July 17, 1941 in Belton, South Carolina. For 84 years Larry lived a life filled with love, faith and laughter. On September 18, 2025, he was called home to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.
During his lifetime, Larry proudly wore many titles in his lifetime – soldier, HR professional, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and loyal friend. He served his country in the United States Army, then spent his career as Manager of Human Resources, with BASF. During his career, his compassion and wisdom touched many lives.
Larry’s greatest joy came not from his work, but from his family. To his wife Shelly, he was a steadfast partner and best friend. To his son Doug, and to his bonus daughters Darlene (James) Moore, Tamara (Jason) Villers, Christy (Jeremy) Moore, and Rachelle Green – he was a guiding hand and a constant source of encouragement. And to his twenty-one grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, he will always be remembered as “ Papa Larry”.
Larry’s faith was the true cornerstone of his life. He was a faithful member of The Galilean Church. Larry would share his unwavering Love of Jesus with everyone he met. Making people feel welcome and cared for was one of his greatest gifts. When he wasn’t with his family or his church, you could often find Larry on the water. His happiest moments were often found boating with family and friends. Larry’s legacy was one of love, faith, service to others, and in always spreading kindness.
He leaves behind a family who adored him, a community who respected him, and friends who were better for having known him. Though his earthly journey has ended, the light of Papa Larry’s life will continue to shine through the generations he so dearly loved.
