He was born in Trenton, Nebraska on March 30, 1931. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1948 and was a Korean War veteran. He had lived in the Chattanooga area since 1952. During the 1970s he held a teaching position as a member of the original staff of Chattanooga State Community College. He then became the Director of Environmental Services at NHC HealthCare Chattanooga. He held that position until he retired in 1996, but continued on as a part-time employee with 34 years of service.
In retirement, he resided in the Red Clay community of Bradley County He was a die-hard fan of Lady Vols basketball. He was also an avid writer, writing and publishing eight novels.
Lindy is preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Thomas and Ada Mae Wertz, his first wife of 43 years, Ruth Hodge, and his second wife of 25 years, Betty Godfrey.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Karla “Lola” Thomas, of Hixson.
Visitation will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, from 1:00-3:00. The family requests that everyone please wear a mask while attending.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Cancer Research Institute, www.cancerresearch.org.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of NHC HealthCare of Chattanooga and Hospice of Chattanooga, who provided great care and friendship to Lindy in his final years.
