She is preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Young Harwell; by parents, John and Mattie Russell; by two husbands, Harvey E. Young and Glenn Richard Stoutt; by two brothers, Robert Russell of Chicago, IL and Ralph Russell of Atlanta, GA; and by a grandson, Bradley Russell Harwell. She is survived by two grandsons, Marc Halbert Harwell (wife: Holly) of Chattanooga and Glenn Richard Harwell (wife: Whitney) of Fort Worth, TX; one great-grandson, William Halbert Harwell of Fort Worth, TX; son-in-law, Hap Halbert Harwell; and one sister, Mrs. Richmond Flowers (Mary) of Dothan, AL. Lucy was devoted to her family, and her family loved Lucy.
She had friendships that literally lasted a lifetime. She cherished her friends; she listened; she cared; she unified; she engaged; she helped; she was fun. Wonderful lifelong friends such as Erin Jett, Lura Lee Kerr, the O’Neils, Dot Riddle, Jane Still, Margaret Walker, and many others meant much to her.
She remained interested and engaged in her later years. Her friendship with Sandra Campbell, JoAnn Cochran, Scott Crosslin, Shannon Sanders, Becky Smith, Alec Walker, and many others were developed later in her life. The kindness, the compassion, and the assistance that they provided to her as her health declined meant much to her. From her beginning to her end, she remained a strong, kind, good-hearted fighter who will be missed by many.
In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 2:00 at the Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you consider a donation in her name to the Downtown Central Church of Christ (where she attended for over 90 years) or to Hospice of Chattanooga.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
