Mildred was born in Bessemer, Alabama, only daughter of Josiah Hardy Griffin and Hattie May Eddings. After graduating from business school in her late teens, Mildred moved to Knoxville to work for the land acquisition department of the Tennessee Valley Authority. There she met the love of her life, Carroll Monroe Pinson, and the married couple soon moved to Chattanooga. After raising their daughter Carolyn, she took a job at Provident and retired 30 years later as an Executive Assistant. She was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church and was known as an avid gardener.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband and daughter.
She is survived by her grandson, Michael Lynch, his wife Ellen, their daughter Haley; and by her granddaughter, Kathryn Lynch, and her daughters Ashleigh and Alyssa.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 19, at Chattanooga Memorial Park, 501 Memorial Drive, Chattanooga.
Flowers by Gil and Curt, on Tremont in Chattanooga, will be handling the floral arrangements, 423-756-8603. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Mildred’s name to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
