Born October 14, 1938, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Rev. Almon Harrison Hawkins and Alice Mildred (Walding) Hawkins, she was the oldest of six children. The family later moved to Chattanooga, and Nancy graduated from Marion County High School in Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee, while her father pastored Sequatchie First Baptist Church (1952–1956).
Nancy possessed a deep love and God-given talent for music. For many years she served as piano accompanist for her father and other churches throughout the Chattanooga area, and she sang in multiple church choirs, believing music was one of the most beautiful ways to worship the Lord. She enjoyed playing piano with joy until her illness gradually stole that ability from her. She was previously a longtime member of White Oak Baptist Church and, in recent years, a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.
On November 30, 1963, Nancy married the love of her life, T. Wayne Moore, at Tremont Baptist Church in Chattanooga, with her father officiating. They shared 39 years of marriage until his passing in 2002.
Nancy retired from Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union after many years of dedicated service in the accounting department. In her later years, one of her simple pleasures was watching her favorite show, The Golden Girls, with her beloved grand-dog Luna at her feet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Almon and Alice Mildred Hawkins; husband, Thaddeus Wayne Moore, Sr.; sisters Peggy Ayers and Dorothy (Dottie) Lee Hawkins; brother John Hawkins; father- and mother-in-law William Thaddeus and Flora (Satterfield) Moore; brothers-in-law Lamar Moore, Terry Moore, and Dale Moore; and sister-in-law Jan Moore.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Thaddeus (Thad) Wayne Moore, Jr., Timothy (Tim) Harrison Moore, and Elizabeth (Beth) Ann Moore, all of Chattanooga; sister Rebecca (Becky) Rundles (Mike) of Gainesville, GA; brother David Hawkins of Opelika, AL; brother-in-law Thomas Ayers; sister-in-law Vicki Moore; along with many beloved nieces and nephews including Angie Tucker (Jimi), Matt Ayers (Jennifer), Andy, Jeff, Julie, Mindy, Brooke, Daniel, Leslie, Dana, Wil and their families; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Nancy was a beautiful soul: faithful, music-loving, devoted to her family and her Lord. Her life touched so many through her years of quiet service, her piano playing, and the love she poured into her children, nieces and nephews, and even her grand-dog Luna.
