

Nellye Kathryn Pickett Arnold, 95, went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2020. Born March 25, 1925 in Pikeville, Tennessee, Kathryn was the seventh sibling of eight brothers and sisters. She attended St. Elmo United Methodist Church and more recently White Oak Methodist Church.
She earned a BA from the University of Chattanooga and in 1965 a Master of Library Science from the University of California.
Kathryn came back to Chattanooga to begin her library career. In 1966, she assumed the role of Director of the Chattanooga Public Library. The Bookmobile became very popular in the 1960’s under her leadership. In 1967, half the library circulation was via the bookmobile program.
Her greatest professional achievement was helping to coordinate and oversee the building of the Chattanooga- Hamilton County Bicentennial Library in the downtown area. She retired in 1986 after 38 years of dedicated service to the community and the library profession.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Paul Arnold; parents, William Albert Pickett and Christina Payne Pickett; siblings, Herbert (Sally) Pickett, Monnie Pickett (Mike) Kraus, Otis (Artie B) Pickett, Rubye (Bill) Cates, William ”Don” ( Leatha) Pickett, Glenn Pickett, and Wilton “Bill” Pickett.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dawn Arnold, nephews and nieces William Albert (Colleen) Pickett, Winston D (Sun) Pickett, Judy (Ed) Lieb, William P “Phillip” (Pam) Pickett, Deborah C. Pickett, and Johanna P (Jim) Hartley; and many loved great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 1:00 Saturday, August 22 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. .
