Nicklin L. “Nick” Dobbs, age 96, went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2018. He was born on October 14, 1921 in Chattanooga, the youngest of three sons of John G. (Johnny) Dobbs and Jennie Shipp Dobbs. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Rachel Cash Dobbs of Ooltewah. He was a graduate of Chattanooga High School, and worked for many years as an award-winning salesman for Royal Typewriter and Office Products Company. Mr. Dobbs’ father was a professional baseball player and served as manager of the Chattanooga Lookouts in the early part of the last century. Several years ago Mr. Dobbs greatly enjoyed throwing out the first pitch at a Lookouts game as seen above.
Mr. Dobbs was a longtime member of First Christian Church and later joined First Presbyterian Church where he was a member at the time of his death. He was greatly admired and appreciated for his strong Christian faith, his consistent optimism and refusal to complain, his warm smile, and his goodwill.
He is survived by his cousins in Texas, Mississippi, and Florida, and a nephew-in-law, Gary Smith, of Ooltewah. A graveside funeral service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 6, 2018, for burial with his wife.
