Gay was born to the late Robert and Gina Cross on April 15, 1930 in Albany, Kentucky. She was of the Baptist faith. Gay and Johnny her loving husband of 47 years moved to Chattanooga in 1952 for Johnny to pursue a career at Chattanooga Rock, later to become Vulcan Materials.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Vickery; daughter-in-law, Kathy Vickery; brothers, James, Edward, Jet and Clayton.
Gay is survived by her children, Shirley (Billy) Johns, David (Kathy) Vickery and Steve Vickery; grandchildren, Duwane, April, Andrea and Monica; five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to NHC Rossville, Hospice of Chattanooga and Mom’s Beloved friend, Shirley Ownbey.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, June 9, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of life service for Gay will follow at 2 pm on Sunday, at the North Chapel with Phil Cross officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
