

Ralph was born in DeKalb County, Alabama, the youngest of ten children born to James Daniel and Leila Angie Roberts Payton. He had lived all of his adult life in Chattanooga.
He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and recently received the Honor of Deacon Emeritus. He was retired from Combustion Engineering and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and a grandson, Brian Cook.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Turner Payton, daughter, Beverly Boyers, granddaughter, Courtney Pittard of Alpharetta, Georgia, two great grandchildren, Payton and Davis Pittard, sister, Frances P. Shepard of Fort Payne, Alabama, numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 pm Friday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, and from 1 until 2 pm Saturday at the church.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 4, at White Oak Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
