He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was raised in Dade County. Bob joined the United States Air Force in 1969 and served 22 years for our country. He served in Vietnam as a F-4 Phantom Specialist and retired from Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. Bob moved back to Chattanooga in 1991 and was employed with Wal-Mart in Hixson as a department manager. He was a member of East Brainerd Baptist Church. He loved High School Football and was an avid sports fan.
Robert is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John and April Cross, Thomas and Jennifer Cross and Paul and Karin Cross; former spouse, Doris Day Hemphill; daughter-in-law, Felicia Thompson; grandchildren, Benjamin and fiancé Hailey, Daniel, Isaiah, Emilie, William, Jacob, Caleb, Kelli, Niko, Haley, Olivia and Brianna; great grandson, Franklin; brother, Jack Edward Henry and wife Diane; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday and 10 to 11 am on Friday at the North Chapel.
Services for Bob will be held 11 am on Friday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Eric Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
