Steve loved the Lord, his church—Ridgeline Church of God—his church family and his pastors. For 42 years, he worked faithfully at Food City, where he retired after a lifetime of dedication. Well known throughout East Ridge, Steve was often seen walking to and from work, always with a smile, and sometimes catching a ride from his many friends along the way.
He will be remembered for his cheerful spirit, kind words, and genuine care for others.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Macklin Smartt and Mildred Allene Yoder Smartt. He is survived by his sister, Linda Morgan, and his brothers, David Smartt and John (Donna Jo) Smartt.
A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Pinter officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
