Shirley Ruth Trotter, 90, of Hixson, Tennessee, went to her Heavenly home to be reunited with her husband on February 26, 2026. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on February 14, 1936, Shirley was a beloved, resilient, hard-working, and cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her. From the beginning, she carried a steady strength and a warm spirit that lifted others up and made family feel like home. After this introduction, she will be lovingly remembered as Shirley.
Shirley was born to the late Varnell and Virginia Howard and was 1 of 4 siblings. Her roots in Chattanooga shaped the values she lived by—faith, perseverance, and a deep devotion to the people she loved.
A true example of dedication, Shirley worked for Brock Candy Company for 50 plus years. Her long career reflected not only her work ethic, but also her pride in showing up day after day with reliability and determination—qualities that defined her life in every season.
On February 24, 1951, Shirley married Gene Trotter. They were married 75 years, building a life marked by commitment, laughter, and enduring love. Together they raised 5 children, and she especially enjoyed family camping trips—moments that became treasured memories and lasting stories passed down through the family.
Shirley found joy in simple pleasures. She loved shopping and sitting in her rocking chair, where she could rest, reflect, and be fully present in the everyday moments that mattered most.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a member of Ekklesia Baptist Tabernacle before closing.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation and gratitude: thank you to the staff of Hearth Hospice for the care and kindness shown during this time.
