Tom was born in Milwaukee on April 12, 1963, to his mother Mary Alice Borhart and father August Emil Borhart. Tom joins his parents in eternity, as well as his brother Jim Borhart and many loved ones including his dear gram June Rankin. Tom is survived by his sisters Terre Balistreri and Tracy Borhart, his brothers Mike Borhart and Bob Borhart, his niece Jennifer Albrecht and her children Brandon, godfather to Cameron and Jazmine, and his beloved dog Harley.
Tom attended John Marshall High School where he played varsity baseball and competed on the swim team, and in his senior year he was elected the Homecoming King. Tom attended DeVry University in Chicago and earned his Associate Degree. He then worked for AT&T in Chicago for many years where he enjoyed listening to live blues music and sampling the great tastes of the local restaurants. Tom moved back to Milwaukee and continued working for AT&T until his retirement in 2018.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews swimming at Kool Waters, the Wisconsin Dells and his quest to find their favorite restaurants in weekly excursions. He also shared his culinary skills with them. Tom would take them on drives to visit uncle Bob in Minnesota and enjoy the local activities.
After retirement, Tom moved to his new home in Hixson, Tennessee, near Chattanooga. He also invited our mother Mary to move in and spent considerable time and energy caring for her until her passing on March 19, 2026. Tom became friends with his wonderful neighbors, often sharing the fruits of his garden and his homemade jams. He loved the Southern hospitality he experienced.
Tom had a love for life and was a gourmet, enjoying cooking and known by family as their personal chef. He became a master in numerous cuisines including Italian, Mexican, Chinese and American. He often went hiking along with Harley in the mountains near his home, as well as in Utah and Arizona, including backpacking in the Grand Canyon. He was a generous host and entertainer, gregarious and attentive to his guests.
Tom leaves behind many family and friends in every place he lived, including Milwaukee, throughout Wisconsin, Chicago, and Hixson. He will be greatly missed.
