He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Edna Louise Sloan; his parents, Bill Erwin and Bessie Ruth Sloan; his sister, Ms. Ruby Armstrong; and his nephews, David Armstrong and Dennis Armstrong.
Tom is survived by his daughters, Tina (Terry) Smith and Donna Sloan Young both of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Deborah (Derek), Jackie (Allen) both of Chattanooga, and Wesley (Kayla) of Huntsville; great-grandsons, Jackson, West, William, Isaiah, Caleb, and Owen; nieces, Freida, Nancy, Linda, and Ann; and nephew, Bobby.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and a member of the Baptist faith. Tom retired after 40 years of dedicated service from BASF corporation. In retirement, he proudly served as a part of the honor guard of the Vietnam Veterans Association (VVA) Chapter 203. This was an accomplishment that not only gave him a tremendous amount of joy but also stood to support his noble commitment to both Veterans and his Country.
Terry Smith, Derek Vaughn, Allen McClendon, Wesley Smith, Jackson McClendon, West Beckett will be serving as pallbearers with honorary pallbearer, William Beckett.
We would like to thank the tremendous team of nurses at Hearth Hospice for the love and care they showed, not only to our dad but to our entire family.

A visitation for Tom will be held Friday, July 18, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, P.O. Box 9, Hixson, TN 37343. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor David McNabb officiating, 1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
