Troit D. Cleveland, lovingly known by many as “Possum”, “TD”, “Detroit,” “Hi-T”, and “Daddy T”., went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 14, 2026, at the age of 89. Troit lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith in Christ.
Troit was a long-time resident of Hixson, and Dayton, Tennessee. He retired from DuPont as a millwright worker, a testament to his dedication and work ethic. His personal interests included fishing and playing church league softball and industrial league softball. After retirement, he was blessed to fish and work in his garden daily. Troit was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church (Abba's House) and was currently a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Dayton.
His smiles were deep and wide, contagious, and loving! Troit never met a stranger and was always ready to help those in need.
Troit was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Cleveland; his mother, Pauline Toler; his father, William Troit Cleveland; his brother, Thomas Mason; and his sisters, Teresa Jordan and Alice Toler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Cleveland; his sister, Rebecca Cleveland; his son, Keith Cleveland (Leslie); his twin daughters, Stacy Cooper (Todd) and Tracy Griffin (Phil). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sydni Covington, Ashlee Hawes, Will Cooper, Jackson Cooper, Brett Cooper, Bethany Butler, Payton Mowery, and Faith Griffin; stepchildren, Susan Holland (Casey) and Doug Smith (Deanna) and Steven Smith (Gretchen); as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Troit’s life will follow at 3:00 pm on Saturday at the Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel with Dr. Phil Griffin officiating.
Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
