He was a Veteran of the Marine Corp having served in the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Red Bank Branch.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ridette Pontes Nelson, parents, Harry G. and Elma Sweney Nelson.
William is survived by sons, Ken (Kathy) Mara, Walter Nelson, Wayne Nelson, and Rick (Debby) Nelson, 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a brother, Dr. Tom Nelson of Maitland, FL.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8 at St. Jude Catholic Church, followed by a memorial service with Father Charlie Burton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or St. Jude Catholic Church.
