A proud graduate of the University of Houston, Gus earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s in Petroleum Engineering. He began his professional journey at Cawley, Gillespie & Associates in 1997 and dedicated 28 years to the company—a testament to his deep commitment and pride in his work.
While Gus was devoted to his career, his greatest joy came from being a father to his two sons, Luke and Liam Presas. His pride in them was boundless. Whether cheering them on at baseball games, karate competitions, or swim meets, he marveled at their many talents. Gus found his truest happiness in their accomplishments and the kind-hearted individuals they are becoming.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gus had a special love for baseball. He played from Little League through high school and continued in college through recreational leagues. A loyal Houston Astros fan, Gus’s love for the game was infectious and enduring.
Gus is survived by his beloved sons, Luke and Liam Presas, and his wife, Veronica Presas. He is also survived by his sisters, Michelle Moncrief and Linda Ramirez; nephews JoJo Cantu and Roman Cantu; niece Mia Cantu; and his extended family in Corpus Christi: Patricia Reyes, Danny Reyes, niece Isabella Reyes, nephew Jonathan Reyes, Sandy Guerrero, and San Juana Guerrero.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the medical team at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights, especially Nurse Practitioner Cheryl, Nurse Andrea, and the compassionate care of Houston Hospice Nurse Angela.
A special thank you to the incredible support system that surrounded Gus and his family: Michelle Moncrief, Tiffany Echevarria, the Reyes family, the Wong family, the Laddoch family, Monica Sanchez, Staci Passe, Karin Pace, Lorena Orantes, Will Harris, and Gus’s closest friends—Aldemar Moreno, Marlon Sanchez, Jaime Acevedo, Sal Garcia, and Rick Hernandez.
