Alice Elizabeth Lincoln (96) of Llano, passed away February 8, 2026 in Weatherford,Texas. She was born the oldest of five girls to parents Alonzo Edgar and Laura Irene (Shore) Lowe on September 11, 1929 in Stratford, Texas.
While in high school, she met Sherman Ross Holt, Jr., while he was attending military school in Roswell, N.M. They eloped in New Mexico on September 7, 1946. They worked on Grandpa Holt’s farm outside of Dumas but the farming life was not for Daddy, he had a calling for the road. Mom never rode with Daddy in those big eighteen wheelers, but she did follow him to the south of Texas where they settled with their family in Houston in 1956.
Mom worked here and there, but mostly she was a stay at home mom. Daddy found work at a local trucking company closer to home due to our rowdy and playful activities. Alice had a green thumb, for she found her hobby of yard work and the love of plants. We would see a “Yard of the Month” sign planted in the yard, sometimes month to month until Daddy died in 1981.
She met Charles Lincoln at a Methodist Church Social, With a brief courtship, they married on June 23, 1984 in Houston, later moving to Llano in 1991. Alice and Charlie diligently worked and cleared the property until Charlie passed with cancer in 2001.
Besides taking care of her plants, Mom joined a genealogy organization named Genealogy of Kingsland in 1989. She taught herself how to use a computer and how to research Census records. Alice was hooked, she began researching our families, along with the Lincolns. She also applied and received her certificate from DAR for National Society Daughters of the American Republic. She was member of the a non-collegiate society name Beta Sigma Phi-North Shore Council in Houston and Lutie Watkins Memorial Methodist Church.
Alice was preceded in death by husbands Sherman Ross Holt, Jr and Charles Abraham Lincoln; two sons, Sherman Ross Holt III and Lonnie Joe Holt; a daughter Jeanette Holt; two siblings Eula Faye Burden and Helen Marie Chmiel with several nephews and nieces and a great grandson.
