“FUZZY”

Allen Edward Els, born August 17, 1928, to Carl E. Els and Florence M. Beacham Els in Bellaire, Texas, passed away peacefully September 17, 2024, in Spring, TX. Known to his friends and family as “Fuzzy”; he said when he was born, he had white fuzz all over him, so his dad called him “Fuzzy”!

Allen lived a full 96 years and excelled in anything he did from singing in the Zion Lutheran Choir, all Sports (especially football & golf), Automobiles and Hot Rods (street racing and building), Boxing, Singing and playing Guitar, Shooting competitions, Shotgun and Shell building, Bird Dog Judging and Field Trials, rode his father’s Horses, building and flying Model Airplanes, playing Golf and serving as a Course Marshall, Boating/Fishing/Camping, building Golf Clubs, Bowling, Cooking, Farming and even picked a little Cotton for his family in Burton, TX a few times growing up.

Allen loved to dress snazzy, have clean sharp automobiles and always researched anything he did to find the best equipment/products and wanted to prove to himself he could master something and be the best at it before he moved onto something else. He truly loved life!

At just 16yrs old, Allen quit school and begged his mother to sign for him to join the Merchant Marines where he set sail around the world at 17. When he returned to Houston, he worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company then met his one and only wife, Retha, in 1948. Allen went on to build a strong career as a Rotary Pressman for The Houston Post, The Chronical and Gulf Printing Company and he served as a Leader for the Union.

A lifetime of memberships, accolades and leadership roles for Allen include founder of Houston Rocket Jockeys (street racers), certified Golf Club maker/repairs, Teamsters Union, Health Science Institute, National Rifle Association, Classic Chevy Club, Academy of Model Aeronautics, Journeyman Web Pressman, Gulf Coast Offset Workers, National Shoot-To-Retrieve Field Trial Association and Judge, Tomball Gun Club, Carters Shooting Center, Graphic Communications International Union, National Patriot’s Medal, NRA Golden Eagles, Defender of Freedom Award, numerous Outstanding Leadership Awards (multi assoc.), and more.

He was preceded in death by ex-wife of 35 years, Retha Evelyn Johnson Els (of Gary, TX); children, John Els, Carl Els and Kenneth Els. He is survived by children Donna Els Theis (David), Randy Els (Lisa) and Anna Els Bierman (Billy); grandchildren, Erin, Wesley, Cary, Clint, Jennifer, Karen, C.J., Ryan, Jeff, Joey, Jessica, Kevin, Brandon, and Brady; numerous great-grandchildren and other family.

Allen was preceded in death by his siblings; Charles Els, James Els (“Jimmy”) and John Wright Beaty Els (“Johnny”, b1932/d1945).

The family will lay his earthly body to rest on Friday, September 20, 2024, via Heights Funeral Home and Woodlawn Garden of Memories; a Celebration of Life event will be conducted later by his family
