

ANNA LEAH REES STERNENBERG, born November 23, 1932 to William McKinley Rees and Cassel Marie Comeau Rees and died November 15, 2012 in Houston, Texas. Leah was born in Boulder City, Nevada while her father was one of the construction workers building Hoover Dam. She grew up in El Monte, California and moved to Los Angeles, California after graduating from high school. Leah and her husband Jim moved to Houston in 1971. In their younger years Leah and Jim were active members of several Lutheran Churches in the Houston area. Leah and Jim were involved with the building committees responsible for construction of the first church structures for Christ the Servant Lutheran Church and later for Covenant Lutheran Church. For a number of years Leah published a monthly church newsletter using a mimeograph machine (in the days before personal computers). She also did volunteer work at the Good Samaritan, a resale shop sponsored by the Lutheran Church and at Spring Shadows Glen assisted living facility. In addition to her husband Jim, Leah is survived by daughter Karen Marie, son Robert Steven and wife Lauren, son James Ernst, granddaughter Pamela Weber and husband Todd, grandson Brion, brother-in-law John Sternenberg, brother-in-law Eugene Bryant, and a host of cousin-in- laws from the Sternenberg/Mieth & Noessel sides of her husband’s family.
Visitation will be on Tuesday November 27, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Waltrip Funeral Directors 1415 Campbell Road Houston, TX 77055. In keeping with Leah’s wishes, her remains will be cremated. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the charity of your choice.
