Sept 14, 1935 – March 21, 2013
Anne Livingston was born 9/14/1935 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to Edwin Sevier Livingston and Gladys Pettengill Livingston. She attended Washington High School in Milkwaukee, graduating in 1954. She then went on to complete a Nursing degree in Milwaukee. In 1957, she married Cornelius Aart Leenheer and together, they had two children: Julianne Marie Leenheer (1960) and Casey Coenraad Leenheer (1961), both currently of Houston, TX. Throughout her nursing career, she was recognized for her commitment and dedication to improving herself as a nurse. She held various positions related to surgical, emergency and critical-care nursing throughout the 1960s and early 70s until the family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia in 1974. After several years in Southeast Asia, she returned to California and returned to nursing. In 1977 she relocated to Houston, where she spent the remainder of her career working in Houston’s famed Medical Center, working alongside Dr. Denton Cooley at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, caring for the earliest heart transplant recipients. She completed her career at Memorial-Hermann Hospital as the Lead Nurse in the Critical Care Unit.
Upon her arrival in Houston in 1977, she became a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Spring Branch, where she became involved in many aspects of serving God and her church, including mentoring and teaching theology. Over the years, she assembled a very large group of close friends, whom she loved dearly. She never had a negative thing to say about anyone and held firmly to her belief that people were generally good and deserved to be treated with respect. She was a voracious reader and relished in-depth discussions on just about any topic. She also enjoyed cooking and Sudoku and was known for her quick wit and quirky sense of humor. She is survived by her two children, Julie Gailey (and husband, Harold) Casey Leenheer (and wife, Jennifer), grandchildren Harold L. Gailey III, Gracen Gailey, Denise Hinson, ChristiAnne Leenheer, Steven Gailey, and Sara Leenheer, and one great-grandchild, Logan Hinson. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Martin of Ohio, and her brother, James Livingston, of Wisconsin. She will be missed by many and remembered by all whom she touched with her great heart and deeply abiding love.
A celebration of Anne's life was conducted by The Reverend Robert P. "Fr. Bob" Goolsby on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 1656 Blalock in Houston, where committal services followed at the columbarium in the church garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to the St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church Building Fund.
