While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated. Its is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. My sister was taken from us during the same period as you know.
I offer my sincere condolence and deepest sympathy on your loss. May the outpouring of sympathy, the kind acts of friends and strangers and the comfort in knowing that your loss is felt by many, help you through this difficult time.

Mommy wanted to say how proud she was of you. She said you worked hard all your life to provide for your sons and that your sons "sure did turn out good".

Tia Tonia took me to my first movie at the theater. It was a double feature: Who Framed Roger Rabit/ Honey I Shrunk the Kids. I loved her spaghetti and was never able to duplicate it. She loved Charles Bronson and had that huge cutout of him in her bedroom at the house on Skinner. I remember her chasing Rigo around with the belt and him laughing and jumping over the couch and running all around the living room to get away. I'm not really close to anybody in my family, but when I had my son, everyone brought me a gift and Tia Tonia gave me a gigantic Jason's Deli bag full of baby clothes. I never did have to buy my son any clothes in his infancy because of her generosity. She also went to Sam's and bought me a ton of diapers. It was just too generous and we didn't ever even talk on the phone before that. But afterward, that changed, and I got to know her a little better for the last two years. She gave me parenting advice that I need and I have few people to give it to me, so it made a huge impact. That's why my son left the bottle before one and uses a regular cup now. She gave me insight on how to deal with the changing relationship between me and my mother, now that my mom is aging. She gave me insight to better understand my grandma Tillie. My Tia Tonia made sure that I knew she accepted me. It's like she had this insight on life and people and their relationships and understood how fragile my feelings are. She knew how to talk to me even though we didn't know each other very well. I could talk to her about my Tia Mage. For me, it's very awkward to talk about missing Mage because I worry that I will upset people. One day I went to visit my Tia and she wasn't feeling well, so she let me know that she preferred not to have any visitors. She didn't ask me to leave. She just suggested that she had intended to be alone. So when I volunteered to leave, she started crying and telling me that it wasn't me, and she wasn't mad at me, and that she was feeling very ill and wanted me to please understand and not be upset. I realized that it was hurting her to think that it might be hurting me that she wanted me to leave and I thought to myself, "How did I never notice before how selfless my Tia is? Why didn't I spend more time getting to know her when I was younger?" I don't know. 

Thank you, Tia, for helping me to feel less alone in the world. Thank you for not judging me and for seeing me for who I am. Thank you for understanding me and looking past my awkwardness and knowing me. Thank you for assuming the best of me.  I love you and I wish I had told you all of this while you were still here, with us. I shouldn't have kept those feelings to myself.

The most profound advice Tia Tonia shared with me: "[You] reminisce over the past too much. [You] can't get stuck in the past like that. If those were the best times of [your] life, then it's high time that [you] make some new good times. Regardless [of what you do], life goes on. But if [you're] depressed over how [your] past was better than [your] present, then that should tell you that [you] need to improve [your] present. Don't mourn over how your relationships have changed, but instead make the best of the relationships you have left. And most of all, enjoy your life, because life is short."

Though I barely knew mama Lomeli, just the mention of her warms my heart.  May all her warm memories always keep you company; Bryan, Rigo, Ley & Phillip.

We little knew that night that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. We Love you Toni

Rest in Peace Aunt Toni.  You will be greatly missed.  Love and prayers to the family and all her friends.

May you rest in peace Tia Tonia. To Rigo, Phillip and all that loved her....my heart goes out to all of you. May God heal your sorrow with time. I'm here for you if you need me.
