Ara “Pearl” Brown Morrison passed away May 15, 2011 after an abundant life. Pearl was born June 10, 1914, in Paris, Texas, and was preceded in death by her husband Wilson “Bill” L Morrison, her eight siblings, as well as her granddaughter Kayla Morrison.
Pearl is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Morrison and his wife, Glenda of Houston, TX and Terry Morrison and his wife, Christine of Cave Creek, AZ. Pearl is also survived by her Granddaughter Haylee Morrison.
Soon after they married, Bill enlisted in the US Navy and was shipped to the South Pacific. Pearl contributed to the war effort by working as a blueprint technician for Consolidated Aircraft in Ft. Worth TX while her husband served four years in a construction battalion as a “Seebee” in Guam. During the war Pearl was able to save enough money for her and Bill to resume their life together in Springer, New Mexico where they started an independent construction business.
Pearl will be fondly remembered for her lifelong dedication to family. She was a terrific cook, a gifted homemaker, and someone who always put her husband, children, grandchildren, and others ahead of her. In addition to the many lives that Pearl touched she also volunteered as treasurer of the First Baptist Church for over 20 years. Pearl was an artisan and handcrafter in the truest sense of the word; there are many that will remember her for her finely hand-sewn “unusual” aprons and her coveted made-to-order crocheted afghans and scrubbers.
The family would like to thank Maria Villatoro for the care and attention she gave to Pearl these last few years; making it possible for her to live at home with her family.
Gravesite services will be held Wednesday May 17th, 1pm at Earthman Resthaven Memorial Gardens 13102 North Freeway, Houston Texas. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services on property at the funeral home. The family is requesting friends to consider a memorial gift in her name to Meals on Wheels Program/Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, Attn: Theresa Johnson 3217 Montrose Boulevard Houston, TX 77006. Donations can also be made on line @ www.imgh.org
