

Aurbre Raymond Oates, Sr. was born to the late Johnny Durham and Helen Mitchell on February 3, 1943 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. He departed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. He accepted Christ at an early age. Aurbre enlisted in the United States Army in June, 1960 and was honorably discharged.
After he was discharged from the Army, Aurbre worked for the New York Telephone Company for approximately 8 years. He then moved his family to Tulsa, OK where he worked for IBM for 2-3 years. His next assignment was with PSO Electric Co. for 10 years. His last job while living in Tulsa, OK was with the school system for 18+ years where he retired and moved his family to Houston, TX.
Aurbre was a member of Brookhollow Baptist Church also known as The Church Without Walls under the leadership of Dr. Ralph D. West.
Aurbre’s hobbies were golfing and playing Chicken Foot, where his goal was to destroy everyone he played against. He was also an avid movie and music buff, an excellent dancer and a self-professed jack of all trades.
Aurbre loved his friends who he traveled around the world with on several occasions. Among his favorite travel spots were Germany, Jamaica, and anywhere he was surrounded by his family.
Aurbre married the love of his life, Deloris Hampton on May 30, 1971. To this marriage two sons were born, Aurbrey, Jr. (Lathonia) and Damon Oates. He also has a daughter, Suprena Clegg (Terence) currently residing in Long Island, NY. He leaves behind his brother George Brown (Tulsa, OK), nephew Hannibal Brown (Tulsa, Ok) and sister Annette Christian (Kent) (Brooklyn, NY). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Brianna & Kendall Oates (Houston, TX) along with 3 other grandchildren, Joquan, Tiana, and Terence Clegg (Long Island, NY.) and a host of other family members and friends. Aurbre had a special place in his heart for Carol Stewart as a daughter and Corey Perry as a son that he loved very much.
