
Barber Henry "Coot" McCray beloved and cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2014. He was 73 years old and lived fulfilling and God fearing life. Barber was the oldest of four children born to L.W. and Corneliua McCray on February 17, 1940 in Pelican, Louisiana. He moved with his family to Houston, Texas in 1948. Barber graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1957. After graduation, Barber joined the United States Airforce where he served as a military police. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the U. S. Airforce, Barber worked for the United States Post Office when he returned home from war. Barber was a Christian. He accepted Christ at a later age in life at The Community of Faith Baptist Church where he was baptized. He was a member of Northwest Community Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Barber was a good man who genuinely loved his family and would do anything for them. He was considerate and helpful when we needed him. He loved God; and he truly believed in God's mercy and grace. Barber loved his children, and his mother, and his siblings, cousins, and all of the people that loved him during his life journey. Although his life was not perfect, he was fundamentally good. We will always affectionately remember his devotion to his family. Barber got married in 1976. His wife, Peggy McCray, two children, Andre McCray and Ashla McCray, and one grandchild, Kayla McCray are Barber's immediate survivors. His two sisters, Erma Nelson, Mary Thomas (Chester), his brother, Michael McCray (Paula), nieces, nephews, cousins and many close family friends are also his survivors.
