

Mr. Bernard Melvin O'Neil was the fourth child born to Annie and Melvin O'Neil along with Gladys O'Neil Washington, Richard O'Neil and Alfred O'Neil all preceding him in death with the exception of Alfred. They would reside for a short while in Newark, New Jersey then moved to Lovelady, TX. where he attended primary school and then on to Houston, TX where he graduated Wheatley High School. Upon graduation Bernard enlisted in the United States Air Force Squadron 3702 Flight 130 Division. Where he served in many foreign regions such as Germany and the Middle East and earned an honorable discharged for his service. He returned to New Jersey and started a career with the Veteran's Hospital Administration until his retirement. Even in in the retirement years he continued to work in service organizations. As a devout Christian, Bernard was baptized at an early age and attended Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. He lastly attended Windsor Village Church until his health began to fail. In 2010 he moved from New Jersey to Houston, TX to reside near more of his family. He always had a special way with children and they were often immediately drawn to him. Never marrying or having children, he took great pride in helping in rearing the children in his family. He was a steadfast source of wisdom, love and support throughout his life. Bernard always had a kind word to offer with his gentle spirit. He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Alfred O'Neil, Houston, TX; 6 nieces, Diane Washington Little (James), Charlotte, NC; Cynthia Montgomery (Charles), Houston TX; Debra O'Neil, Houston, TX; Eunice Adams(Rodney), Dallas, TX; Freida O'Neil, Houston, TX; Ginita O'Neil, Houston, TX, a nephew Bruce Washington, Irvington, NJ; and a host of great-nieces and great nephews, family, and friends.
