

Bernice Marie Atkinson was a loving, and dedicated mother, friend and grand/greatmother, who was always there for her family. She was born April 11th, 1944 in Chappell Hill, Texas to Max and Caroline (Gurka) Kubeczka. She passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on September 3rd, 2025 surrounded by her loving daughters.
Bernice graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1962 and went on to marry Richard Doyle Atkinson. They were married for 32 years. After her daughters entered elementary years in school she pursued a job at Western and Southern Life Insurance followed by a career as a Documentation Specialist and Supervisor for Port Stevedoring.
She was the devoted mother of Melisa (Atkinson) Epps and Michelle (Atkinson) Free. Being a mother brought Bernice immense joy and is remembered as being a joyful, loving, and kind spirit. She had a sacrificial love for her family and a passion for creating. Family was one of the great themes of Bernice’s life. She greatly valued her relationships and spending quality time with those she loved. She was known as a seamstress who enjoyed creating keepsakes for many family and friends–from sewing Barbie doll clothes for her young daughters, high school formal dress, and all bridesmaid dresses for each of her daughter’s weddings, to baby blankets and other beautiful works. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, making each holiday beautiful and memorable. She used her talents with excellence to bless others. She always desired good things for her family and was willing to lend a helping hand and an ear to listen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Caroline (Gurka) Kubeczka, and her brother, Daniel Kubeczka and his wife Sharon. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters, Melisa (Atkinson) Epps and husband Riley and Michelle (Atkinson) Free and husband Randy; grandchildren Hunter Epps and his wife Priscilla, Caroline (Epps) Collier and her husband Tyler, Tara (Free) Wikstrom and husband Eric, Harrison Free and fiance Brianna Bemiss, and Grace Free; great-grandchildren Charlotte, Blake, Savannah, and Travis; her sisters Dolores Wrobleski and Florence Hoffart, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00am September 10th, 2025 at Second Baptist Church North Campus 22770 Hwy 59 North Kingwood, Texas 77339 followed by graveside services at Earthman Resthaven 13102 North Fwy, Houston, Texas 77060.

A funeral service will be held at the Second Baptist Church, North Campus, located at 22770 US-59, Humble, TX, 77339, on September 10, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Following the funeral service, a committal service will take place at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX, 77060, on the same day from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
