

She attended The Woodlands School where she was an honor roll student and member of the basketball and tennis team and later graduated in 1952 . Upon graduating she attended Texas Southern University where she met and married Lindbergh L. Black on March 13, 1956 and to this union two children were born.
Bessie accepted Christ at an early age and upon moving to Houston joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A.A.Lucas. She later became a member of Lily Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Terry K.Anderson, until her health prohibited her from attending. Bessie worked in Food and Nutrition Services at Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and later retired from Clearlake Regional as a Dietitian.
Bessie was also involved in community affairs: she was amember of East Sunnyside Court Civic Club; and Vice chairperson of social concerns for Jones Memorial Area Senior Fellowship. Preceding her in death are her parents, Willie Davis Toles and Bessie Van Dorn Green; husband, Lindbergh L. Black; sisters, Jean Francis Jeffrey and Lenora T Wilkerson; brother, John Wesley Hollie, and other family members and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter Cynthia Arnold(Michael); a devoted son, Donald Black (Bivica) a loving granddaughter, Shannon Watts(Lance) three great grandchildren,
Aja, Ariel, and Patric Tarin; sister, Veola Edwards; brother,Sammie Green; dear friends, Shirley Harris, Evelyn Ferrell,Ella Jackson, and Lorraine Fields, and a host of nieces, nephews cousins relatives and friends.
