

Bonnie Jean Burton Conner was born in Houston, Texas on Sunday, August 9, 1925 to parents, Mack and Clara Ann (Walles) Burton. Surrounded by her loving family, Bonnie passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday afternoon, October 19, 2014 at the age of 89.
Bonnie grew up in the Lindale Park area of Houston, where she attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1942. To fulfill her life-long dream of nursing, Bonnie became a registered nurse. She graduated from the Lillie Jolly School of Nursing, Baptist Memorial Hospital, in 1947 and earned a BS degree in Public Health from the University of Houston in 1949. In that same year, Bonnie married Julian J. Conner in Houston, where they made their home, raised a loving family and were longtime members of First Baptist Church Spring Branch.
Bonnie served as a Houston Independent School District nurse from 1951-1955 and from 1965-1983, receiving a Certificate of Merit from HISD for her outstanding service. Early in her career, she had volunteered at charity hospitals and worked as a Public Health Nurse.
Preceded in death by her husband in 1997 and by her brother, Charles M. Burton, in 2012, Bonnie is.survived by her five loving children: David Conner and wife Cheryl, Deborah Horehlad and husband Richard, Daniel Conner and wife Debbie, Candace Carpenter, and Priscilla Upham. She also leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren: Dylan Conner and wife Jesse, Andrew Horehlad, Conner Carpenter, Sarah Horehlad, Claire Conner, Hannah Conner, and Lydia Horehlad.
Family and friends gathered for a visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where a celebration of Bonnie's life was held in the chapel on Thursday morning, October 23, at 10:30. Following a brief reception, the family gathered at Brookside Memorial Park, where Bonnie was laid to rest with her husband.
