Buddy’s childhood family of Carlisle, TX included four brothers and one sister. Their outdoor adventures may have been where his love of the great outdoors sprouted and the genuine ability to find humor and joy from the simpler things in life.
After serving in the Navy on the USS Midway from 1951 to 1954, Buddy lived and worked in Houston, Texas fell in love, married, and started a family. He loved his family with all his heart and would do anything for them. Even though he drove for a living, every vacation he would load up the family and take them camping wherever they wanted to go.
Buddy’s life included a second marriage where his love for bacon and biscuits flourished. With this marriage came additional family members and Buddy treated them as if they were always part of his family. Among his favorite times, were the family gatherings. Especially the large Christmas Eve celebrations where everyone would gather in his home.
After retiring from Southern Pacific Transport, Buddy and Marguerite incorporated another family full of great friends through serving within the American Legion. His caring heart left a beacon of light for all in the community.
Buddy created a legacy of strength and love. We all are very fortunate to have known a man who gave of himself whole-heartedly yet asked for nothing in return. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met.
Preceded in death by his parents Jeff and Ethel McFarland, brothers Paul and Roland McFarland and his daughter Debra Lynch. Buddy is survived by his sons David and Steve McFarland, daughters Janet Lewis and Carol Drake. He is survived by brothers Thomas McFarland and David McFarland and his favorite sister Nellie Sykes. I am free to soar with the wind,
Catch a ride with the running deer,
I am free to live on in your memory.
Let this brighten your days just as the daily rising sun.
Flowers are welcome, but the family encourages contributions to the American Legion’s outreaches in Buddy’s honor: https://mylegion.org/PersonifyEbusiness/Donate
