Here’s the story of a Champion! The Great warrior of God, Calvin Lee Curry, was introduced to the world on February 6th, 1963 in Houston, Texas. Calvin was gifted to his Amazing parents, Lonzo Curry and Cora Mae Curry, along with his 11 siblings. The early chapters of Calvin’s life, started from humble beginnings. He grew up in the small neighborhood of Carverdale, but his big dreams and grand desires could not be contained within the limits of his surroundings. Even at an early age it was apparent that Calvin’s aspirations were to see the world, which was made obvious by his extreme love for the Oakland Raiders. Nothing would have made him happier than having the opportunity to dress in silver and black on Sundays. Well, that was until his next chapter of life started. In his adolescent years, while playing football at Cy-Fair High School, Calvin ran upon an extremely beautiful and radiant young lady that would change the course of his life; and I quote “Forever”. Calvin lived on the “county side” while his future wife, then Tina Roberson, lived on the “city side”. For those of you that are not aware, this is where Shakespeare got his inspiration to write Romeo and Juliet; confirmation of that still pending. Calvin being the football star of his high school while dating someone from his rival school, made for some exciting Friday nights. Once Calvin became a young adult, the trajectory of his life started to elevate into heights that he could never imagine. He started by marrying his high school sweetheart on October 22nd,1983. Together they started a family that consisted of three precious children. From oldest to youngest: Joshua Curry, Jeremiah Curry and his “Honey” LaMary Curry. Calvin went out of his way to ensure that the necessities and desires of his beloved family were met. Along his journey Calvin worked several jobs to support his family. Understanding his new role as a husband and Father, Calvin founded the company Certified Fire Protection. He was hardworking, driven, determined and as time passed, a successful businessman. He employed many people and gave others much needed opportunities. Many lives were transformed by doing business with him. Calvin touched so many lives and it’s evident from the many people that showed up to his service to pay their respect; only knowing him from a professional vantage point. After forming the company, Calvin seen the boundaries of his small neighborhood as the bridge to the rest of the world. But everywhere he went there was one thing internally that followed, his love for God. Still while being a young man, Calvin started his walk with God at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, under the tutelage of Pastor Melvin Smith, where he would eventually become a Deacon. Deacon Calvin confessed his life to the ministry on August 11th, 1996; on this day he became a Minister. He knew that the responsibility of being the head of a household, was to ensure that he provided for his family in every aspect, especially Spiritually. Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Min. Calvin took his devotion to the works of God more seriously and passionately than anything else in his life. Being the advent warrior that he was, Min. Calvin traveled with his Bible in his truck and the words in his heart. Most conversations, despite how they started and with whom they were with, ended with the loving words of God. There are more people than can be named that could stand as a testament to Calvin’s love for his ministry. One person that can be identified was Pastor Mary Roberson, who in her latter years, appointed Min. Calvin and Min. Tina as Pastors of Latter Day Prayer Band Ministry. Calvin was still in his role as a Pastor prior to his transition. The Revered Man Of God received his golden wings the morning of August 14th, 2018. Some will say that he lost his battle to cancer, but on the contrary; Pastor Calvin reclaimed victory every step of the way. He was Strong, Courageous, Unyielding, Bold, Resilient and Fearless. He never once allowed his seven years of battling to define him. Pastor Calvin was the pinnacle of a Righteous God fearing man that exuded love, friendship and goodwill. Pastor Calvin will be welcomed by his Mother Cora Mae Curry; his Father Lonzo Curry; his sisters: Katie Mae and Mamie Lee; his In Laws: Pastor Mary Roberson and Deacon Buck Roberson Pastor Calvin will remain in the hearts of his Wife Tina Curry; his children: Joshua (Chaka), Jeremiah (Aundria), LaMary; his siblings: Sally Mae (Charles), Joe Lewis, Rose Mary, Eddie Dean, Annie B., Doris Jeans, Sabra Marie (Theodis), Adrian (Maria), Lawrence Charles and Glen (Rebecca); his grandchildren: Joshua Jr and Jacob; God-Children: James Moore Jr, Tim Golbert, Destiny Boyce, Kayla Waddell, and Stephanie Curry; Sisters in Law: Hazel Marcel, Vickie Roberson, and Mary Hearne; Brothers in Law: Kenneth Roberson, Mike Deloache, Rich Marcel, and Jerome Hearne; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and many more people than the ink required to list.
