My friend Carl was a man after God's heart, he was faithful to read the Word of God on a daily basis. Carl was a man of few words, but he walked out his Christian faith with compassion and kindness. I will forever be thankful that our paths crossed and cherish the memories. Carl walked out his faith and touched many people with the love of God. My most favorite memory is watching Carl and Doris hold hands while watching TV and driving down the road. Carl's love was Big, Deep, and Wide. 


What can anyone really say about Carl Ferguson, my Papaw? 

No matter how hard I try no words seem to really do him justice, but I'm going to give it a try anyway.

My Papaw was a great man. One of the greatest men I've ever known. He was a generous, kind, and loving person who would give the shirt off his back to help out anyone he knew. He was a leader among men, an honest and faithful Christian man. He poured passion and charisma into everything he did, and truly understood the meaning of hard work, even if he liked to be a little mischievous now and again. He had a passion for life and he made sure he lived it. From his many trips to quiet nights with family he never wasted a day.

He was my first friend, my teacher, my cheerleader, my coach, my confidant, my support, and my super hero. I honestly didn't think there was anything he couldn't do. He was always full of life, laughter, and grace. So much so that he almost seemed like a mythical creature, full of magic, and for along time I thought he really was magic.

When I was about 5 years old, I had convinced him to play a game of hide and seek with me. So I closed my eyes and counted to 10 and when I opened my eyes he was no where to be found. So naturally I went on the hunt. I looked in every room and all around the back yard, but there was no Papaw. So I tried again, this time being extra thorough checking under all the beds, in the closets, all around the backyard, even the side yards, and still no Papaw. So in frustration I was determined to find him this time I went through all the rooms and even went so far as to look in all the drawers, to which I got a very stern expression from Nanaw when she caught me, then I went outside and checked behind the gazebo (where I wasn't allowed mind you) and behind the trees and bushes, and still no Papaw. Finally, exhausted I got scared and started to cry, and as soon as I started to wail I heard his voice behind me question “what are you crying for?”

My condolences to the family of Carl Ferguson.  Loved serving  with my Brother Carl in the Usher Ministry.  It was an honor.  I can truly say "Well done Good and Faithful Servant!"

We only met once at Wendy and Dave's wedding, but it seems we kept in touch through Christmas cards and later face book, and though Dave. We send our prayers to you at this sad time.

Devastating news. My Mentor. Carl was a great leader and hard worker. Not a lazy bone in his body. Gave me my big break in the oilfield by giving this Snubbing hand a shot in the packer shop.  Huge influence in my professional life to this day. Nobody, and I mean nobody, could pencil whip’um like Carl!!  Thank you Sir! 
Eternal rest grant unto him, May he rest in peace. Amen
