Dr. Carolyn Wilson Green—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—finished her race and was received into the arms of her Savior on August 30, 2024. Born in Pasadena, Texas on June 11, 1952, to Sam Willis and Imogene Beggs Wilson, she was the oldest of three daughters. She attended Clear Creek High School and the University of Houston, where she met her lifelong love and best friend—Jon Dale Green. Carolyn and Jon married in June 1973 and were blessed with two children, Rachel Lynn and Benjamin Wilson Green.
Carolyn worked for several years in computer programming and database management before returning to the University of Houston to pursue her Ph.D. in Management and Information Systems. After graduating, she taught at the University of Houston, the University of Texas-Brownsville, and Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She was instrumental in launching Texas A&M University-San Antonio and served as the interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Director of the Center for Information Technology and Cyber Security. She retired in 2018.
In addition to her family and her work, Carolyn loved music and was a gifted pianist. She played piano for her church most of her adult life. She was active in her church, volunteering, teaching, and using her many talents to serve the Lord.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Imogene Wilson; her sister, Mary Lou Wilson Delwood; and her granddaughter, Bethanne Grace Miller. She is survived by her husband, Jon Dale Green; her daughter Rachel Green Miller and son-in-law Matthew Miller; her son Benjamin Wilson Green and daughter-in-law Echo Storch Green; grandsons Jonathan Miller, Gabriel Miller, Nathanael Miller, Willis Green, and Wayland Green; granddaughter Exa Green; sister Sarah Wilson Coffman; cousin Becky Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Carolyn will be greatly missed. Her brilliance, kindness, and insight were a blessing to everyone who knew her. She will be remembered especially for the love she showed her family and friends. Everything she did was to serve God and care for her loved ones. We are thankful for the years we shared with her and for God’s merciful blessings in this time. We rejoice that she is at peace and that we will see her again in glory. As she did, we trust in the Lord to sustain us until then.
Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying, “Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.” Proverbs 31:28-29
