

On October 18, 1954, in Boonville, Missouri, Dr. John Christopher and Annie Mae Jackson gave birth to their first girl and first child. She was named Cecilia Annette. Her father John, a United Methodist Minister and mother, Annie Mae, a Chicago Elementary Educator, were also proud parents of John and Melissa. The family moved approximately in 1959 to Chicago to settle and raise their beautiful children. Both parents have preceded Cecilia in death. Cecilia Jackson-Witt graduated from Luther North High School in June 1972. She was a member of the Pom Pom squad, member of the Spanish Club, Thespians Drama Group, had many leads in Musical Plays, a member of the A Cappella Choir all four (4) years in high school and President of Soul Unlimited; a diverse group, and attended Patricia Stevens Modeling School. In the fall of 1972 Cecilia “aka CeCe” entered Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Ar. She majored in Special Education and English and received her B.A. degree in 1976 hoping to teach in the area, preferably working with the deaf. She had the honor of being selected Miss United Negro Fund representative during her junior year. She was also a member of the Student National Educational Association, Kappa Kitten and a Cheerleader. She was Contestant #1 up for Miss Philander Smith College in 1975 where she got third runner up and won Miss Congeniality. Cecilia attended Texas Southern University and obtained her Master Degree of Education in August 1989. She later joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Cecilia met her future husband; George Livingston Witt, and joined hands in marriage in March 1988. They had three (3) children, two daughters; Christina, who resides in Los Angeles employed with ABC Studios/Grey’s Anatomy and Celena who is a student at Texas Southern University who is scheduled to graduate in December 2017 with a B.A. in Marketing, and step-son; George Junior, who resides in Greenville, SC with their grandson; Princeton. Cecilia recently retired this year after forty-one (41) years of service with the Houston Independent School District teaching English and serving children with special needs. In 2003 she was honored as Special Education Teacher of the Year at John Marshall Middle School. During her tenure, she made lifelong friends. No person was a stranger; she had a heart to serve. Recently, she volunteered at her church Windsor Village United Methodist Church where she spent her last days of giving to others who were in need of help from Hurricane Harvey. Cecilia surrendered her life to the Lord at an early age and made Jesus her Lord and Savior. Everyone who met Cecilia felt her compassion and love that she so willingly shared. She was full of fun, laughter, loving, joyfulness, kindness and understanding She genuinely loved jazz and loved to dance. She enjoyed traveling, biking, jogging and loved to taking pictures and drinking fine wine! She is survived by her husband and children, brother; John “Chris”, sister; Melissa, and nephews; Myron, Matthew (deceased), John IV, Robert, Charles Russ, Keenan Henderson, and two (2) nieces; Angelica and Virginia and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and god-children: Brittney Porche’, Chelsea, Winston, and Taylor and a host of friends and associates.
