Charles was one of the finest men I have ever known. I had great respect for him.
He always had a story. Some of my best memories were of him and my Dad swapping stories about the old days. He once told me that if you weren't happy with your life right now, you would never be happy in the future. Some of the truest advice I have ever recieved. He also told me he wasn't a bank and not to ask to borrow money from him. More words of wisdom. I  will miss you, Charles.

Pappaw was a great grandfather. We had lots of good times together in Rockport and San Marcos. Some of my favorite memories are just hanging out on the front porch swing and listening to his stories about cowboys and Indians. Sometimes we would talk about the time he helped bring me a car in the middle of a big snowstorm in Canyon. Pappaw always had great, entertaining stories. He had a heart of gold. I feel very fortunate for the time I got to spend with him. Love you Pappaw!

Bubba Burt and Family please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences. It is very sad to see the "old guard" generation from the real " good days" at B&R pass on. There never be another group like theirs. God Bless

I  had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Burt a few years ago.  I remember he was funny, smart and a real gentleman.   He will never really be gone since so many friends and family keep him alive in thier hearts and memories.

My dad touched a lot of people, in many different places in his life; at church, work, running, the neighborhood, etc. Dad loved to make people smile and see them have a good time. Growing up,he always found time to take me hunting, fishing and to all sorts of sporting events. My dad invented the term DIY and taught me so many useful skills. I'll sure miss you, Dad; you were a mans man, a cotton picker at 5 years old and an arm wrestler at 80. If there's a chinning bar up there, my dad will surely find it. Thanks for everything you did for me and my family, Dad; you'll always be remembered.

Please accept our most sincere sympathy. Charles was a good man and I was always proud to claim him as my cousin from Houston.  That was a big deal since everyone else was from Fort Worth.  The miles between Houston and Fort Worth never got in his way of being part of the large Mowell family.  He loved his aunts and uncles as brothers and sisters. Charles, or Chuck, as I knew him was my running partner for many years. His passing is hard for me to fathom since I always knew to be fit, healthy, and active. Pappaw made me feel like a part of the family from the second we were introduced. Even though I only knew him for a short time, I feel as though I have lost my own grandfather. I was truly blessed when Pappaw was brought into my life. You will be missed, Pappaw. We love you.

Dear Burt Family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Charles.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  I was fortunate enough to have met Charles and remember him as a funny and very happy man. I know there will be hard days ahead as he is missed, but just knowing that one day all of the family will one day see him again gives some peace. He grew up on tough st. the farther you went down tough street, the tougher it got. He lived in the last house on the street. He was always on time and he liked nothing more than to work hard. He loved God wih all his heart. He could make you feel like a man just by shaking your hand. He was the best ping pong player i ever played with. he will be greatly missed. The astrodome will always be our special place papaw.

Dear Mom -
I know you are missing Dad already and loved him so very much.  I am so happy I had last Thursday with him and wish so much he could have been with us to celebrate his birthday on March 16th, he was so looking forward to that.  I think he really would have liked our handling our final good bye meeting as a celebration of the all the kooky memories we all shared of him.  I will miss him every day as I know you will and my boys will never forget the fun times they had with him as they were growing up.  I am comforted now to know he is probably shooting the bull right now with David having a good ole time. I just wonder if he is already beginning to ask someone up there "What are we eating for supper?" 
Hopefully there is no garbage pickup in Heaven for him to fret about.

Dear Loretta, Linda, and Bubba:
I cannot express how hard this must be for all of you. I love the picture you chose of Burt. It is so typical of his smiling face. I have so many great memories growing up on Woodard St and of the Burt family, too many to mention. I am so glad that he is now in a wonderful place without pain or confusion, and I know he will be waiting for his family to join him there one day. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Papaw was a great grandfather to me,i'm very happy and proud to be his grandson.He helped me out with lots of things i loved him!

This was one of my favorite pictures of my grandpa, Pappaw and his girl. He was the toughest guy I ever knew, and the sweetest guy I ever knew. He was someone I knew if I ever needed advise from he would be there with no judgement and always knew what to say to make you smile. I love you so much Pappaw and you will always be in my heart. You are truely the greatest man I know.

Charlie was my good friend even though 20 years my senior. We worked together at B&R and Charlie was quite a pace setter at work, always hitting it hard. I mostly enjoy remembering our runs together after work at Memorial Park. I think I'm the one who convinced him he could run 26.2 miles if he built to it slowly. Slowly wasn't Charlie's style but he completed his first marathon in 1986 and several others after that.

I worked with Charlie at Brown & Root for 35 years. Charlie worked for me on different projects for many years. He was a good worker aand a fine gentleman. My condolences to all the family.

What a true gentleman we have lost.  Charlie always had a smile on his face, something nice to say, and always wanted to help out.  I especially enjoyed working with him when we were on loan to the office in Chicago.  He enjoyed sharing his memories of growing up with us younger folks.  The Chicago team enjoyed Charlie’s way of ending each day as he called to the Houston pipers  “c’mon boys, let’s saddle-up”.  We will miss you pardoner, happy trails….
