Charline was born to Charles William Garrett, esq. and Virginia Louise Odom, November 28, 1950 in Houston, TX. She was given the middle name Malana, honoring her paternal grandmother, Malana Bonham Hammond Garrett, who descended from both the Cooke and Fuller Mayflower passenger families.
She attended schools in both Galena Park and Houston. In her youth, she enjoyed track and cheerleading, as well as time at the beach. She moved to Baytown in 1978, where she raised both of her sons, and resided there until 2011.
Charline worked for many years for the Bealls Department Stores in Baytown, later transferring to Palais Royal, when the stores came under common ownership. The last eight years of her career were spent as a franchise operations manager for GNC in Baytown, a job that she truly enjoyed, before retiring in 2010.
Charline is survived by her husband, Edward P. Kenney, Jr. of Houston; sister, Mary Lou Keller Groves of Houston; brother, Robert C. “Skipper” Garrett of Brentwood, TN; sons, Tab M. Pierce, of Oklahoma City, OK; Christian D. Salas, esq., of Houston; stepdaughters, Karen Ramirez, of Katy, TX; Katy Lindsey of Mont Belvieu, TX; and her mother-in-law, Betty Kenney of Baytown.
She also leaves behind her brother- and sister -in-laws, sons-in-law, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, a great-grandson, many cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles W. Garrett; her mother, Virginia L. Isaacks; her brother, William Joseph Keller; her stepfathers, Langford C. “Jack” Lanier and Joseph Edward Isaacks; and her father-in-law, Edward P. Kenney, Sr.
After retiring, she married Ed Kenney and moved back to Houston, residing in the spring branch area. They attended the Spring Woods Baptist Church.
While her health had been delicate the last several years, she enjoyed perusing antique and resale shops, tending to her houseplants, ‘scary’ movies, and spending time with her friends, family, and two beloved Persian cats.
A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 9 a.m. at Forrest Park-Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston; followed by a service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at 11 a.m.
The family extends its gratitude to all of the medical professionals who have assisted with Charline’s care over the last several years.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkLawndaleFH.com for the Kenney family.
