Cornell accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was baptized by the late Frank Williams, Pastor of Rocky Hill Baptist Church, in Madisonville, Texas. He continued his walk with Christ by later uniting with Little Rock Baptist Church (Madisonville, Texas) and Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church (Houston, Texas).
Born and raised in Madisonville, Texas, Cornell attended and graduated from Madisonville High School (c/o of 1972). While attending high school, Cornell was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He also showcased his athletic skills by representing the Mighty Madisonville Mustangs in football, basketball, and track. The most notable experience of Cornell’s high school years, however, is when he crossed paths with a beautiful young girl named Lilla Spencer, from Midway, Texas. The year 1972 proved to be a momentous year for Cornell. He graduated high school, married his high school sweetheart (Lilla), and relocated to Houston, Texas.
After moving to Houston, Cornell commenced his lifelong career in the heavy-duty trucking industry. He started working for Superior Trucks as a parts delivery driver. His career would later advance him to become a heavy-duty parts sales agent for various companies: Trucks of Texas, Worldwide Trucks, and Select Transportation. Cornell was diligent in this career field for 42 years, until he retired in 2014. Cornell also had an extreme love for horses, rodeos, and trail rides. He was initially affiliated with the Southwest Trail Rider’s Association/Sugar Shack Trailblazers; however, he eventually found his home with the Black History Trail Riders Association.
A little-known fact about Cornell is he had mastered the art of cooking chili and ranch styled beans, although he only did so when he wanted to and not upon request. He also went through a phase where you could not pull him from his favorite action comedies and sitcoms: The Dukes of Hazzard, Three’s Company, Married with Children, and Martin.
On Sunday, July 16, 2023, God sent a messenger with orders to release Cornell from his suffering body and caused a sleep only God can awaken. He will be joining his parents, Solen and Johnnie Glover; sister, Judie Glover Spencer; and brothers, Raymond, Albert, and Melvin.
Cornell leaves to forever cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Lilla Mae Glover; son, Derrek; daughter, Victoria Jackson (Robert); grandsons, Jermaine, Nicholas, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Zion and Haven; brothers: JT, Charles and Floyd (Vickie); sister: Johnnie(Gerald); grand dog, ChiChi; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
