While on a vacation to visit her cousin in Dallas, Texas, she met her future husband, Leon. They were wed on March 4, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. They spent the first years of their marriage living in Dallas, eventually settling in Houston, Texas, where they lived until their deaths.

Her love of church was evident in the many hours spent volunteering in a variety of areas, as well as her faithful attendance every Sunday morning along with any and all church-sponsored activities.
