Delores Marie Mitschke

Delores was born April 12, 1930 in Howellville, Texas to Frances Marie Hofferek Sontag and William Sontag. She lived in the Houston area her entire life and watched the city grow and change. Delores was a graduate of Sam Houston High School and was a member of the Black Battalion Drill Team.

After meeting the love of her life on a blind date in 1948, Delores married Marvin Leroy Mitschke on November 18, 1950. In 1958, they built their dream home in Hillshire Village and were fortunate to live there the rest of their lives. They raised a family there and created unforgettable memories for so many.

Delores enjoyed entertaining family and friends. The more, the better, it brought her such joy. They hosted dances, card games and countless celebrations and holiday gatherings at their home and at their lake house. She was very giving and generous to all.

Delores was an honorary life member of the PTA and was very involved in her children’s schools. She was a member of the Spring Oaks Garden Club. She loved spending time in her garden and was always proud of her gorgeous azaleas. For years, Delores was an avid bingo player. She and Marvin enjoyed traveling. In the early years, they took many memorable family camping trips. Later, their travels took them to Alaska and Hawaii to regular trips to Las Vegas.

She always enjoyed hunting and fishing. Then she would put her other hat on and would sew, quilt, and do beautiful needlework. She loved to cook, especially for others. Her family and friends will dearly miss her beautiful smile, laughter and love of enjoying life.

Delores is preceded in death by her parents, Frances Sontag and William Sontag; brothers, Billy John Sontag (Junior), Frances Dale Sontag (Honey), Jackie Glenn Sontag and her husband Marvin Leroy Mitschke.

She is survived by her brother, Larry Sontag and wife Vicki; son Greg Mitschke and wife Lisa; daughter and primary caregiver Vickie Riddle. Her five grandchildren, Bryan Wilkins and wife Zanna, Drew Mitschke and wife Sarah, Lyndsey Bratton and husband Tate, Emily Landrum and husband Connor, and Aly Nichols and husband Casey. Delores is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Brylee, Grayson, Maci, Carter and Tinley.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 in Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive in Houston, 77055.
