

Dora Marie Gentry was born on January 30, 1940. She was the daughter of Bernice and Ellis Mattox, Sr. of Sunnyside, Texas. She was one of four children born to this union. Dora accepted Christ at an early age while attending Harper United Methodist Church Dora attended Bob Burton Elementary and graduated from Sam Schwartz High School. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1959 to further her education to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse; specializing in Newborn Nursery and Postpartum Care at Cook County Hospital were she worked for 9 years. In 1969, Dora met the love of her life, Roy M. Gentry Sr. and relocated to Houston, Texas where they started their lives together. From this union they were blessed with three children, Kim, Roy and Chris. Dora continued her nursing career with Hermann Hospital, now known as Memorial Hermann Hospital for 44 years until her retirement. Throughout her life, Dora kept God first and attended Harper United Methodist Church and Mt. Calvary Church where Rev. Foreman was Pastor and later under the leadership of Doctor Maurice Johnson. Dora was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, co-worker and friend. All of these titles reflect the one emotion everyone felt who encountered her…LOVE. Dora went on to her greatest title yet God’s Angel on October 28, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy M. Gentry Sr.; father, Ellis Mattox Sr; mother, Bernice Mattox and two brothers, Charles Mattox; and Ellis Mattox Jr. and a host of aunts, uncles and other family members. She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter; Kimberly R. Gentry; two sons, Roy M. Gentry Jr., Christopher M. Gentry; three stepdaughters, Monique Bell, Kandy Lewis, Sandra Evans; a sister, Brenda Greathouse; six granddaughters; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends
