

Doris Anne “Dodie” Helke, joined our Lord in heaven on January 17, 2012. Born in Highland Park, Illinois, on February 20, 1926, Dodie also resided in New Mexico and Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Jim Helke and her parents Keno and Mary Beneventi. She is survived by son James, his wife Theresa, daughter Jackie, son Doyle, grandchildren Zachary and Jessica Helke, and Joe Gibson, and great grandchildren Zoe Helke and Zarius McGill.
Dodie was an ardent Christian, her quick-wit and extraordinary energy accounted for her countless accomplishments in the community inclusive of: Pres. Allied Drug Travelers Auxiliary, Pres. Women’s Auxiliary to Texas Institute, YMCA, Timbergrove Manor Civic Club, American Cancer Society, MDA, National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and Advent Lutheran Church. Dodie, always an avid sports enthusiast was an original usher for the Colt 45’s. A loyal supporter of President George H. Bush since his first campaign for State Representative she ultimately became Chairman of Precinct 54 of the Republican Party. Age was only a “number” for Dodie and did not dictate her lifestyle. She was beautiful , vivacious, passionate and witty to the end. God and family always came first in spite of her commitment to community.
The Viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 20, at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd. from 4-7PM. A “Celebration of Life” will be held at Advent Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 21 at 11:00 AM with reception following. Contributions may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 5820 Pinemont 77092.
