Doris Mae was actually born on January 5, 1926 to the parents of Ora Lee Brown and Jannie Johnson in Houston, Texas. The birthday listed on her birth certificate shows January 7th due tto the mid-wife reporting the birth two days after. We always celebrated Doris' birthday January 5, 6, & 7, SHE LOVED IT! Her mother Ora Lee married John Ivory and moved to Houston's North side, Acres Homes, where Doris grew up. Doris completed her education in Houston, graduating from Jack Yates Sr. High School. She later attened LVN school, where she began her career working at St. Joseph Hospital, later with St. Anthony's on Almeda in Houston, the retiring working for Wallace Wade private duty. Doris married Eddie Rogers of Chapel Hill, Texas and during their union she had one daughter, Tena. After marrying and moving to 3rd Ward, Doris joined her uncle's church, Progressive New Hope on Elgin. She was very active in the church activities, participated in the Mission, rallied the kitchen team and was a standing member to all away invites. At any time, Sis. Rogers was on the church bus traveling to support her church and its ministries. She remained faithful and active until her health restricted her from active participation. She thoroughly enjoyed Christian life, a good Solo, would shout if the spirit moved her to a great sermon, and she loved being on program. One of Doris' favorite holidays is Christmas. She would decorate inside and out even if no one else did. From candy canes lining the walk-way, to house lights inside and outside. Doris would light up her house. The tree had to have all the trimings, and the table was set. Her favorite cake to bake for Christmas was pineapple cocnut cake from scratch and lemon meringue pue. On Tuesday morning, May 13th @ 12:40am, Doris fought the good fight and succumbed to heart failure and a collapsed lung. She is survived by her daughter Tena, grandson British, granddaughter Fabrice and great-granddaughter Naomi. Her immediate family Joyce and Laudrey, Izetta and Edwina who sho relied on for transportation to anywhere and whom she talked by phone to several times a day, and her church family.
