Mr Pope was our landlord at a house on Loper Street in Houston back in the mid 1970s. I’m writing a memoir and part of it is about those years. Because my last name is also Pope, we made an instantaneous  connection when we met. He was a nice man , it was good to know him
And sorry to read about his passing.

Dougal Pope was a dear friend of ours.  He was a man who donated his heart and soul to the community.  Rather than some who would merely give their money to those in need, Dougal would give his time.  He saw the adversity that those less priveleged faced, and without question, gave his blood, sweat, and tears to give them a chance.  Those ideals he embodied made us proud to even know him.  Over the years we had the privelege of cultivating a rich relationship with what we consider to be not just a true american, but a genuine human being.  I, and my family are truly grateful to know such a bright and kind soul.  We miss you Dougal.  Take care.

Just one visit with Brother Pope and his wife several years ago, left a lasting impression on myself and my wife. A man with a kind spirit, and a faith that went beyond a Sunday visit to church. He lived a good and a long life, he has earned his rest, our prayers go out to his friends and family.

Mr Pope ~~ What a pleasure it has been  getting to know you, even only through a working relationship for 30 years, here at Houston Helicopters.A gentleman in so many ways, from bringing your gift for the kids at our annual Christmas party to just saying "Hello". May the angels carry you at this time to a much better place. You will be missed - Donna Morrow and family

I worked across the desk from Mr. Pope many years ago as a revenue agent with the IRS. He was a worthy adversary, always professional and doing his best for his clients. I held him in high esteem throughout the years. My deepest condolences to his family.

My friend and mentor for 34 years. R.I.P. old friend, you will be missed. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

To the Pope Family:  Not only did Mr. Dougal Pope prepare our taxes for a great number of years, throughout those years we developed a special friendship. He was a good and kindhearted man.  We will miss him dearly.

The song "The Greatest Man I ever knew" sums it up.  Dougal Pope was a Godly man.  He loved his wife, his children, missions and he never met a stranger.  My love goes out to Phillip, Benny and their family.  The greatest gift God gives us is love and DOUGAL CAMERON POPE, showed more, love and compassion than any man I have known.  Your wings are already flying and the Lord has brough you to your wife.  I am honored to say that I had a life long opportunity to call the Pope's Family.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to the Pope family.  Dougal is now in a beautiful place with his true Love Sibyl. He will be missed by his friends and Loved ones.

Benny, Philip and Families,  I am so sorry for your loss!  I loved Uncle Dougal (Doodle, as us kids called him)!!  I just recently was reunited with him and he was so funny!!  We had a great time talking about Second St. and all our neighbors!!  Even at 92 he was sharp as a tack when it came to the law!!  He will be greatly missed! Philip and Benny - I worked for your dad both downtown and on Bissonnet while attending UH.  He taught me many things related to the law, tax, and accounting that I have carried with me and appreciated for 40 years.  May you find comfort in your memories of your dad.

Bless his heart. Dougal did my taxes for almost 30 years,. A great man full of Dougalisms. Always kept me entertained at our yearly lunch. He is with the Lord and his Angel, his lovely wife. I'll miss you Dougal. No more " Flying Saucer Pies".

In all things give thanks.  Praise God for the life of Mr. Pope.  Take comfort in knowing all is well, and that there will be a sweet reunion some day.

My deepest sympathy and love to all the Pope family. My husband Aaron and I first met Dougal and Sybil in 1949 when we were all newlyweds and became neighbors and neighbors transpired into life long friends. Dougal was not only our attorney, our CPA, my husband's business partner in real estate ventures but most important, our friend for 63 yrs. We enjoyed our friendship with he and Sybil and were saddened by her passing in 2003 only to be followed by my Husband Aaron's passing in 2006. We have always held Dougal with highest regard and love and will miss him no longer here with us but take comfort in knowing that he was greeted by many loved ones and friends including my husband, Aaron.
