Edmund D. Trevino, Jr. “Sonny Boy”, 77, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 3, 2024. He was born to Edmund and Minerva “Minnie” Trevino on March 6, 1947, in Houston, Texas, where he grew up in an area known as Magnolia. He was the eldest of four children and was particularly close to his “Irish Twin”, Frank, who was 353 days younger. Edmund was a member of the Magnolia National Little League at Hidalgo Park and the baseball team at the YWCA on Navigation. As an adult, he played in the Latin American League at Mason Park.
Edmund graduated from Charles H. Milby High School class of 1965. He enlisted in the US Navy, right after high school, and proudly served his country, as a Navy Medic, from 1966-1970. Upon his return from duty, Edmund married his first love, Esperanza “Dodie” Velasquez, on July 25, 1970. Their beautiful union lasted 52 years until she preceded him in death in January of 2023. Edmund served two years in the Naval Reserve, after his military discharge, and continued to serve in the Coast Guard Reserve for 28 additional years. He took advantage of the GI Bill and earned an Associate’s Degree at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Tx.
Edmund joined the Houston Fire Department in 1972 and his career lasted 39 wonderful years, until his retirement in 2011. He enjoyed working secondary jobs on his off days-most notably, Autozone. He devoted 19 years of service to the auto parts store.
Edmund was actively involved in HFD’s Softball League during his early years in the Fire department and enjoyed many years participating in a sport he loved. He even coached his daughter and son’s softball and baseball teams when they played in Little League. Edmund had a natural passion and manual dexterity for auto maintenance and repair. He loved helping family and friends solve their vehicle issues. Married life introduced fishing and deer hunting to him through his best friend and Brother-in-Law, Emilio de la Garza. Edmund also shared a love for music, so much, that he invested in DJ equipment so he could spin his favorite tunes in style. This hobby turned into a side job, as he was often asked to DJ for special events and family functions. Edmund enjoyed being in the great outdoors, whether it be cutting his lawn, tinkering on his automobiles, cruising on the lake in Austin on his boat “The Robalo” or putting mileage on his RV, called “Honey Bee”, when we set out for camping trips. He was known to his nephews, on both sides of the family, as the uncle to wrestle with. This was how they greeted him-whether it be with WWE moves or ambushed from behind. No matter the odds, Uncle Ed always managed to subdue them.
Edmund is preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Minerva (Martinez) Trevino; wife, Esperanza “Dodie” Trevino; niece, Monica Ann Trevino and nephew/godson, Simon M. Velasquez, Jr.
Edmund is survived by his two children, Karen Renee Trevino-Salgado and Edmund D. Trevino, III and two adoring grandsons, Brandon Edmundo and Hernando Nicolas Salgado, who he loved dearly. Also left to cherish his memory are his devoted siblings, brother Frank (Gracie)Trevino, brother Rick (Linda)Trevino and sister Sandra (David) Trevino-Carrion and extended Trevino and Velasquez Families.

A Military tribute will begin at 6:15pm with a rosary following at 6:30pm.
