

BORN: January 12, 1923 Parents: Edmond & Viola Holiday (preceded her in death) One Sister: Betty C. Porter preceded her in death Birthplace: Madisonville, Texas Eleanor Goss attended schools in Madisonville, Grimes County, Texas. She confessed faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. Eleanor moved to Dallas, Texas to attended nursing school. She received her certificate in the field and was employed as a nursing assistant at a Dallas hospital. She met and was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. James Goss on August 14, 1955 in the Houston home of her Sister, the late Melvadine Holiday Armstrong. Mr. James Goss preceded her in death on April 12, 1991. After many years of dedicated service to the hospital, they relocated to Houston, after her husband retired from the Oil & Pipe Combustion Company. Eleanor was given a going-away-retirement celebration along with an award from the hospital. Eleanor Goss was a member of Outreach Baptist Church under the leadership Pastor John Hart. Later, She and Mr. James Goss united with Riceville Mt. Olive Baptist Church on October 25, 1987 under the leadership of Pastor Joe D. Johnson. She remained a faithful member of Riceville Mt. Olive under the leadership of Pastor Terry Eugene Mackey until her transition on May 25, 2013. Eleanor enjoyed the visits by her 1st cousin, recording artist, Jennifer Holiday; she also loved the weekend trips with her husband to Galveston to go fishing and always getting fresh shrimp. Cooking was also a joy to Eleanor-she would make her famous "Beans and Ham Hocks" and especially "Shrimp" -even preparing it at the nursing home where she resided. She loved to travel and often talked about the train trips to Washington, trips to Galveston with Mary and all the Riceville Church Trips, especially to Florida and the National Baptist Conventions. Eleanor loved working and in her 70's, she worked as a private duty care provider for Riceville's oldest member, the late Mrs. Mamie Arbuckle "100". Due to failing health, she decided to really retire. As a Riceville member, Sister Eleanor Goss served on the Nurse Board, Circle # 7 Mission and the Senior Mission. Eleanor Goss is survived by two nieces: Melody Thomas, Lena Stephenson (Jonathan); one grand-niece: LaKeisha Thomas, five grand-nephews: Michael Porter, Kevin Armstrong, Keon Armstrong, Joseph Stephenson, and Christopher Thomas; eleven great grand-nieces and nephews; many friends at Riceville Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
