Eleanor Meyer Scott, 92, of Seabrook, Texas passed away on October 4, 2025 in League City, Texas. She was a native Houstonian born at the family home on Leeland Ave, Houston, TX on March 10, 1933. She was the daughter of Gustav Jackson Meyer and Lillian Elizabeth Meyer. She graduated from Webster High School and the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She began working as a teacher in the Clear Creek Independent School District and later received her master’s degree from the University of Houston. She retired from teaching public school in 1997 after 30 years of service but continued to teach at private schools in the Clear Lake area until she was in her eighties. During her teaching career she taught 2nd grade at Clear Lake City Elementary and she also spent many years teaching the Gifted and Talented students at Bay Elementary and Ferguson Elementary in the Clear Creek Independent School District.
When Eleanor was in second grade, the family moved from Houston to a new house on the bay in Seabrook, Texas along Todville Road. Eleanor had fond memories of living on the bay and was full of stories of what it was like living in early Seabrook such as having to black out the lights at night in case there were German submarines patrolling offshore in the bay and also seeing many victims of the Texas City explosion who were being treated in the Seabrook Community House. After attending college, Eleanor returned home to Seabrook and married her husband Henry Lee Scott of Fort Worth, TX. The two of them set up their residence in Seabrook and had two sons, Stephen Lee Scott and Stuart Henry Scott. Tragically in 1967, Eleanor lost her husband Henry Lee to leukemia and realized she had to raise her two young sons on her own. She bought a house in the new Seascape subdivision in Seabrook where she remained a fixture of the community for the rest of her life. She was very active in the community serving in such roles as President of the Seabrook Civic Improvement Association, President of the Seascape Property Owners Association, President of the local chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society and was a lifelong member of the Seabrook United Methodist Church.
Eleanor is survived by her sister Joan Meyer Archer of Seabrook and two sons Stephen Lee Scott, (Debbie Scott) of League City and Stuart Henry Scott (Barbie Scott) of Clear Lake City. Grandchildren include Lillian Marie Scott, Rebecca Leigh Scott, and Cameron Henry Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM on Friday October 10, 2025, at the Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston, Texas. In memory of Eleanor, donations can be made to The Clear Creek Education Foundation at https://www.clearcreekeducationfoundation.org/donate/. The family would like to thank the staff at MRC The Crossings in League City, TX and Faith Community Hospice for their love and care of Eleanor.
