Ellen (Bitsy) Hoyt finished this life’s journey with her sister by her side on July 7th,2024. She was born in Houston, Texas on April 15,1948 to parents Richard and Bessie Hoyt. She was a preemie baby and was later found to be intellectually disabled. Because of her petiteness all her friends and family knew her as Bitsy, all her life.
She brought sunshine and laughter to her friends and family throughout her life. Even in her final months fighting cancer she always had a big smile and was so happy to greet all that came by to see her. Little sister (Bitsy Boo) will be sorely missed.
She grew up in Houston in a Spring Branch neighborhood. Most of her adult life she lived at Cullen Residence Hall in Houston Texas. There she worked for Princess Food Service as kitchen help at Cullen RH and Fluor until her retirement.
She had a special bond with her boss Dean Williams. In her retirement she was a volunteer at the Guild Shop of St. John the Divine in Houston. She loved working there, particularly with Sue and Pasty in the donations area and with her sister in the art.
She loved to walk her neighborhood in the River Oaks Shopping Center area, shopping at all the stores, and more. Going to visit friends and family as often as she could was a highlight. And when cell phones came along, how she loved being able to reach out to people and to explore things on her phone, sometimes to her sister’s consternation.
Throughout her life she kept in contact with family friends and church friends from her childhood and with their passing, their children and many times their grandchildren. Plus, all the friends she made in her adult life.
She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Bessie Hoyt, her 2nd mother Elizabeth Seltz, Elizabeth’s husband, “Bonnie” Ronnie, her brother-in-law, William (Bill) McCarty (Cindy’s husband), her boyfriend, Danny Hester, her cousin, Charles Pridgen, Uncle John Hoyt, and many other relatives and friends.
She leaves behind her sister Cynthia (Cindy) Hoyt of Pearland TX, cousins Robert Keegan of Houston TX, Susan Hoyt of Benbrook TX, Dick and Sharon Hoyt of Montgomery TX. Her dear friends, Dana and Tom Bellow, of Houston, who through her illness kept in touch every day, Cynthia’s husband’s cousin, Gatha Currie, friends and staff at Center for Pursuit. Especially to her friends, Jimmie Lee, and Alissa Baily, and CFP nurse, Jenny, who took special care of Ellen during her treatments, many first cousins once and twice removed, and Cindy’s step children and step grandchildren, along with many others.
Cynthia thanks Houston Hospice and a special thanks to Bitsy’s Caregiver, Liliana Tovar, who was always there for her with her gentle peaceful spirit. Bitsy’s dear friends who were family to her Dana and Tom Bellow and all the Bellows. Annette Sofka, who was a very special hospice volunteer and Chaplin Dan. Peter Gijsbers van Wijk who was always available to help any way he could over the months of her illness, and continues to help her sister, Cynthia. And all the friends and relatives who sent cards and gifts to her in her final months. What an outpouring of Love. It meant so much to Ellen (Bitsy) and to her and sister, Cynthia.
